October 4, 2010 by Ceri
Filed under Designer Party Dresses, Evening Dresses, Party Dresses, Welcome To Designer Dresses
If you are in need of a designer party dress this winter or next summer, there was plenty of inspiration at London, New York, Paris and Milan fashion weeks. Although the shows are usually only for the press and buyers, there is now so much coverage in the media and online, it is not difficult to follow all of the shows as they happen. The fashion weeks are a great way of getting some inspiration for the season ahead and also making the most of the end of season designer dress sales to grab a bargain that will still be on trend next year. Here are some of the key themes for spring summer 2011 from the recent fashion weeks.
Bright Colours
Typically summer is a great time for wearing bright colours and next summer will be no different. With Max Mara opting for the monotone bright look. The designs were simple but bright! For those that don’t want to wear bright block colours, there were also plenty of brightly coloured prints to choose from. Christopher Kane also went for day glo brights with his neon leather that was perforated to look like lace.
Embroidered Silk Shift Dress By Jason Wu
A shift dress is the perfect style for wearing bright colours.
Neutral Colours
Amongst all those brights there was a little relief for the eyes with some pale beige and whites. At Alexander Wang, Preen and Erdem, beautiful floaty white dresses were every where. At Max Mara beige and white shirt dresses in thin layered fabrics.
This beautiful layered dress is the perfect way to do neutrals in an interesting and feminine way.
Simple Styles
The colour, patterns and embellishment that were so popular for SS11 were cleverly balanced with simple shapes for the new take on minimalism. At Prada this was really evident in a banana print dress which had the shape of hospital scrubs. T shirt dresses, sheath dresses and shift dresses are likely to be every where next summer.
Dazzling Dress By Day Birger Et Mikkelsen
This beautiful dress could work equally well as a party dress of day dress when dressed up with strappy sandals or down with more causal wedge shoes.
Eye Popping Prints
Summer is the perfect time to wear prints and the brighter the better. Roberto Cavalli, Mary Katrantzou and Marc Jacobs all featured stunning prints.
Printed Satin Jersey Gown By Emilio Pucci
Emilio Pucci is known for his amazing prints and this eye catching dress will turn plenty of heads at any summer party.
Sequins and Beading
With evening wear for summer being sprinkled with glitter and sparkle there was plenty of inspiration for party dresses. At Giorgio Armani, the midnight blue dresses were sprinkled with crystals and sequins to look like the Sahara sky at night. There was also plenty of sparkle in the seventies inspired Halston collection.
Halston Heritage One Shoulder Dress
Get a disco look with this one shouldered dress which is perfect for the seventies trend that is likely to be around next summer.

Iconic brand Biba launches at House of Fraser today with an exclusive collection that is packed full of beautiful designer dresses, jackets, coats and more, keeping the brands original ethos but reworking it for today’s women. The collection which is available online and at selected stores combines luxurious designs in opulent fabrics. Its signature style is very much glamour and sophistication.
The online look book shows off some of the most desirable pieces in the collection modelled by It model of the minute Daisy Lowe, who fits so well with the brand. Deep rich colours, embellishment including sequin and beading, faux fur all feature in the collection which is perfect for parties and special occasions but could also be styled for daytime wear.
The collection includes long flowing maxi dresses, a floor length animal print evening coat, a long sleeved satin mini dress with an eye-catching design which combines swirling lines, flowers and animal prints, beaded dresses, a blue sequined jacket, high waisted shorts, faux fur animal print coats and a very desirable navy double breasted military style coat.
Biba was originally created by Barbara Hulanicki in the early sixties as a mail order company and went on to become hugely successful fashion store and global phenomenon in the sixties and seventies. The brand can be credited with shaping ladies fashion throughout the sixties and seventies. In 1975, sadly the store closed it doors and ever since the fashion world has been missing this brand which had such a following of models, students and rock stars. Biba designer dresses earnt huge popularity because they were both trend led and affordable. Biba was a favourite with style icons of the day including Twiggy and Marianne Faithful.
The Biba store on High Street Kensington was the UK’s first big lifestyle store and was spread over seven floors. It contained a food hall, a furniture department, a book store, homeware and menswear departments and was renowned for its stylishly decadent atmosphere and lavish décor inspired by Art Noveau and Art Deco.
The relaunch of the brand exclusively at House of Fraser follows the recent successful relaunch of some other iconic brands if the era including Halston Heritage. Although the collection does not specifically include retro styles pieces there is definitely a feel of that sixties and seventies vibe that is so on trend at the moment. The new brand is aimed at ladies who want great details, fabrics and styling and also at both mothers and their daughters.
This Tiger Print Fit and Flare Maxi Coat is the perfect evening cover up for a glamorous maxi dress. Its floor length style makes it incredibly glamorous and luxurious. It could also be worn in the daytime by ladies with the right attitude. A real statement piece!
This feather cape will add instant old world glamour to any evening dress of party dress.
This Printed Feather Grecian Maxi Dress is an unusual and beautiful choice of evening dress with its elegant draping and eye catching print.
Simple Style – Luxurious Minimalist Dresses
September 4, 2010 by Ceri

The minimalist trend for designer dresses has been simmering away for a few seasons now following its revival from the nineties when designers like Calvin Klein and Jil Sander pioneered this look. Minimalist is exactly what it says – minimal. It is clothes with simple shapes and a lack of decoration, embellishment or pattern. Whilst to some this might seem a little boring for others the beauty of minimalism is its simplicity, clean lines and lack of fuss.
This autumn and winter minimalism was clearly evident with the camel coat being one of the talked about pieces of the season. Neutral and muted colour palettes are a key feature of the minimalist trend with greys, beiges, creams and whites all being popular choices. French designers and labels including Chloe and Celine seem to have really got a way with minimalist clothes. Phoebe Philo at Celine’s autumn collection was pure and simple with a great take on day wear including a beautiful white tunic dress. Chloe’s Hannah MacGibbon featured high waisted trousers and clean tailoring.
At Stella McCartney, there was a beautiful but simple wool dress and a layered mini dress in sheer organza. The colour scheme was grey black and caramel creating that laid back elegance that Stella does so well.
This new minimalism is all about luxury and pared down elegance. There may not be much fuss or detail but what there is, is perfectly formed in the highest quality materials. Minimalist dresses are all about the perfect cut and fit. Simple shift dresses or maxi dresses are worn in neutral colours without any accessories but what really catches the eye is the clean line. In contrast to busy patterns and prints, minimalist dresses are relaxing and calming to look at. Luxurious cashmeres, wools and silks are all key components of minimalist dresses. Designer dresses are just about the best way to wear the minimalist trend as they combine luxury with stylishly simple design.
The minimalist look can be adapted to suit anyone it encompasses designer dresses from mini lengths to mid length shifts and maxi dresses. It can also be worn for daytime, evening, smart or casual. You just need to choose the right shape and fabric to suit the occasion and your own style.
Alexander Wang knows how to work the minimalist trend in his own laid back way. This Asymmetric jumper dress is perfect for daytime or evening and can be dressed up with wedge heels or down with boots.
Acne also do a great version of the new minimalism which includes day dresses in dark neutral colours. This Freyia hooded maxi dress is a perfect example of how well minimalism can work for casual wear.
The little black dress or LBD is probably the easiest ways to wear the minimalist trend. This Mara leather dress by Alice Temperly makes the most of luxuriously soft leather as a simple shift dress.
Theory also do some great day dresses which are simple in style but perfectly formed. This grey silk Elvine fitted dress is just a fabulous cut.
Dannii Minogue’s Designer Dresses – Project D by Danni and Tabitha

As if motherhood was not enough, Dannii Minogue has been keeping herself extra busy with her new designer dress label designed with Tabitha Somerset Webb which features a range of designer cocktail dresses, evening dresses and party dresses. If you missed the recent ITV2 behind the scenes documentary, ‘Style Queen’ about the creation of the label, you can find out more about the pair and their style on the MY- TV interview with them.
The designer label Project D by Danni and Tabithawas conceived when Australian songstress Dannii Minogue met Tabitha Somerset Webb, a London based handbag designer. Dannii was a big fan of Tabitha’s handbags but also loved her sparkle and they got on like a house on fire. Their infectious chatting and laughing led to the decision to start a new fashion label together. The label combines inspiration from both of the creators for a versatile collection that includes daytime and designer evening wear. They wanted to make something wearable and glamorous that would suit anyone including Tabitha who describes herself as 5ft 10in and Amazonian with a big bottom! and Dannii who is tiny and petite. Dannii also wanted something that was easy to wear and practical to ensure that she always looked red carpet ready no matter what angle she was photographed from. Project D by Danni and Tabitha includes those little details like poppers that fit around the bra strap to stop the sleeve falling off the shoulder were really important to her. Experience with annoyances like hanging loops sewn inconveniently on the seam line meant that she new exactly what was needed for the perfectly wearable dress.
The pair maintain that the women’s designer collection Project D by Danni and Tabitha is just really good quality and well made dresses which really come to life when they are bought because they can be interpreted, styled and worn in so many different ways. Younger fans of the label can add a biker jacket for that on trend rock chic look whilst more mature customers can wear the dresses with much more classic accessories and amazing jewellery for a completely different look. The beauty of the collection is that it suits everyone. It is not surprising that the pair have managed to create such desirable designer dresses with Dannii’s most stylish moments including the numerous couture gowns that she has been lucky enough to wear and Tabitha have immense design skills. We think that they have definitely brought some of the elegance of their style icons Liz Taylor and Sophia Loren to the label and glamour of Marilyn Monroe and Kate Hudson to the label. They have described the Project D by Danni and Tabitha brand as exciting, glamorous and timeless and if the first season is anything to go by, we would have to agree with them.
They also have great ambitions for the brand and would love to see Michelle Obama wearing one of their dresses. The collection includes chic designer cocktail dresses, red-carpet glamour, stylish daywear and accessories.
