Charlotte Taylor
Charlotte Taylor launched in 2009 and showed her first collection at London Fashion week this year following her graduation from Central St Martins and a stint with British designer brands Luella. Her relaxed signature style is already winning her plenty of fans. Strong tailoring and bold silhouettes including some very desirable day dresses which act as a great canvas for bright colours and prints. Her inspiration comes from such things as grannies, penguins and soap operas for an eclectic look that puts the fun back in fashion.
Jolaby
In these times of austerity, women are looking for clothes that really work hard to justify their cost. Multi tasking pieces are the latest trend. They allow the wearer to change the look depending on their mood. British label Jolaby started in 2004 and have made a name for themselves creating pieces in styles that transcend the latest fashions and trends. The avant garde styling and attention to detail is an exciting alternative to the mass produced fashions that are so prevalent. The hand made techniques used by this label result in some elaborate and unusual styles.
Juicy Couture
The Juicy Couture label has long become associated with WAG’s and the velour tracksuits which were so popular over the past few years. The brand still creates its luxe sports wear in a range of lurid colours but it has also started to move in a whole new direction with a collection of smart casual separates that are more high end fashion. With influences including English aristocracy punk rock and Californian surfer to name but a few, the label has definitley upped its game with a more sophisticated look than before and pieces which could easily be described as chic wardrobe staples. Therea re even a few very wearable day dresses thrown in for good measure.
Swarovski CRYSTALLIZED
Ferrandis Glamour Collier necklace
The latest concept and retail opportunity from Swarovski is Swarovski CRYSTALLIZED, a range of highly desireable and timeless jewellery and designer handbags. The very chic pieces have been created by some of the biggest names in jewellery design and are the perfect way to add a little sparkle to your life. Designers for the collection include Azzaro, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Lulu Guinness, Manish Arora and Philippe Ferrandis. Each piece in the collection feautures dazzling Swarovski precision-cut crystals, colourful crystal beads and lustrous pearls.
Isabella Oliver
Isabella Oliver is a name that you may have associated with designer maternity dresses in the past but the label has now branched out and is offering a full range of very wearable ladies wear with Isabella Oliver 365. The Isabella Oliver designer maternity dresses were popular with ladies because they offered a comfortable, luxurious and very stylish option for pregnancy wear now this same winning formula has also been translated into their women’s wear range with a range of stylish and comfy day dresses. The range works well for all ages and has been featured on style blog Trying To Look Fab In Your Forties as well as Vogue.

Along with all of the talk of weddings, there has also been a renewed focus on the couple who try to live as private a life as possible. Kate Middleton’s style is being watched by the world. What did she used to wear? what is she wearing at the moment? what was she wearing when they announced the engagement and what will she be wearing for her new royal life. Whilst their has been much scrutiny and some criticism of Kate’s choice of clothing over the years, it is generally thought that she is incredibly stylish and she has even been tipped as a style icon in the making. Her navy blue Issa dress that she wore for the announcement sold out in Harvey Nichols shortly afterwards and Tesco are even promising to produce a budget version of the dress so that anyone in the UK can get the Kate Middleton look.
Whilst in the past Kate has in the past worn pieces of clothing from the high street (the styles just happened to sell out straight after she appeared in them), now she is going to be a royal it is likely that she will be wearing some very beautiful designer dresses. It is rumoured that she is already having a wardrobe of couture Issa dresses made for her (something that most girls could only dream of). She is lucky enough to have her pick of any designer dresses that she likes but the fact that she has chosen Issa is of great significance for the label.
From now on it seems that just about everything Kate wears will be struck by ‘The Kate Middleton Effect’. Her favourite label Issa by Brazilian-born Daniella Helayel is likely to become one of the must have labels of the year. When it comes to celebrity designer dresses Issa is most definitely going to be top of most peoples list. They are flattering and luxurious, striking the perfect balance between classic cuts and a fresh modern look. Issa dresses also make great cocktail dresses with extravagant draped jersey, silks and satins and some beautiful colours.

How To Choose A Beautiful Ball Gown And Understanding A Formal Dress Code
November 8, 2010 by Ceri
Filed under designer clothing, Designer Dresses, Designer Party Dresses, designer prom dresses, Evening Dresses, Welcome To Designer Dresses, Women's Designer Dresses
If you are going to a ball over the festive season, no doubt you will be thinking very carefully about what you should wear. Ball gowns can be elaborate or simple and stunning but if you have never been to a ball before you may be a little puzzled about what sort of dress you should actually wear and what the dress code is.
When you receive an invitation or ticket that specifies that ‘white tie’ or ‘evening dress‘ or ‘formal’ for an evening event, this would usually mean that a ball gown would be appropriate. Debutantes would also wear a ball gown at their debut (yes this does still happen, check out Intrinsically Florrie’s blog to see what she wore as a modern debutante) and students would usually wear a ball gown or prom dress to their prom. Etiquette is a strange thing, it is often not clearly defined what you should wear and these days many of the more traditional dress code rules don’t always apply or are relaxed.
Traditionally a ball gown was an incredibly formal dress made of luxurious fabrics with a full skirt. It was often worn with a stole and gloves. These days whilst a ‘full’ ball gown will always be acceptable at such events you, you will usually find that people also wear a range of other dresses include evening dresses and even sometimes cocktail dresses. An evening dress is usually a full length dress whilst a cocktail dress can shorter or knee length.
As with everything in life, it really depends on the event what will be most appropriate. Some balls for example a military event may require a full and traditional style of ball dress whilst others like perhaps a school prom or college or university ball may be much more relaxed. If it is an event that runs every year, it is well worth seeing if you can find some pictures or talking to people who have attended in the past to see what people wore. If in doubt always opt for the more elaborate or formal option as you are always better over dressed than under dressed.
For designer dresses, look for ball gowns and evening wear by designers including Alberta Ferretti, Marchesa and Roksanda Ilincic. You can often also find beautiful formal evening wear in online department stores. Satins, chiffons and taffeta are all great fabrics for ball gowns and evening wear, you should also look for embellishment or elaborate details.
Whilst a traditional ball gown will always be dressy enough for even the most dressy of balls, there are also plenty of on trend evening dresses that could work well. One shouldered, Grecian and draped styles are very fashionable at the moment and are an elegant and flattering choice. Vintage styles are also very popular, look for lots of elaborate beading to get this look.

The Alternative to The Little Black Dress
Christmas is only a few months away and many of us will be starting to think about Christmas Party Dresses and whether to opt for the classic little black dress or perhaps something a little more experimental, perhaps a black designer dress that makes a very bold style statement. It can be difficult to move away from the little black dress for Christmas parties, it is just so flattering and works so well for the evening. It also works so well with so many different accessories. You could say that black is the ultimate neutral colour for evening wear and cocktail dresses. It is also very slimming and will help to disguise any lumps and bumps caused by a little Christmas over indulgence. Whilst a classic LBD or little black dress ticks all the boxes in terms of wear-ability, it can some times just be a little too predictable.
High End Fashion Scandinavian Style
That is where the latest very desirable black designer dresses by Designer Remix come in. The Designers Remix Collection is a Scandinavian high-end line of clothing designed to be as unpredictable as the women who wear them. October 4, 2010 by Ceri
Filed under Designer Party Dresses, Evening Dresses, Party Dresses, Welcome To Designer Dresses
If you are in need of a designer party dress this winter or next summer, there was plenty of inspiration at London, New York, Paris and Milan fashion weeks. Although the shows are usually only for the press and buyers, there is now so much coverage in the media and online, it is not difficult to follow all of the shows as they happen. The fashion weeks are a great way of getting some inspiration for the season ahead and also making the most of the end of season designer dress sales to grab a bargain that will still be on trend next year. Here are some of the key themes for spring summer 2011 from the recent fashion weeks.
Bright Colours
Typically summer is a great time for wearing bright colours and next summer will be no different. With Max Mara opting for the monotone bright look. The designs were simple but bright! For those that don’t want to wear bright block colours, there were also plenty of brightly coloured prints to choose from. Christopher Kane also went for day glo brights with his neon leather that was perforated to look like lace.
Embroidered Silk Shift Dress By Jason Wu
A shift dress is the perfect style for wearing bright colours.
Neutral Colours
Amongst all those brights there was a little relief for the eyes with some pale beige and whites. At Alexander Wang, Preen and Erdem, beautiful floaty white dresses were every where. At Max Mara beige and white shirt dresses in thin layered fabrics.
This beautiful layered dress is the perfect way to do neutrals in an interesting and feminine way.
Simple Styles
The colour, patterns and embellishment that were so popular for SS11 were cleverly balanced with simple shapes for the new take on minimalism. At Prada this was really evident in a banana print dress which had the shape of hospital scrubs. T shirt dresses, sheath dresses and shift dresses are likely to be every where next summer.
Dazzling Dress By Day Birger Et Mikkelsen
This beautiful dress could work equally well as a party dress of day dress when dressed up with strappy sandals or down with more causal wedge shoes.
Eye Popping Prints
Summer is the perfect time to wear prints and the brighter the better. Roberto Cavalli, Mary Katrantzou and Marc Jacobs all featured stunning prints.
Printed Satin Jersey Gown By Emilio Pucci
Emilio Pucci is known for his amazing prints and this eye catching dress will turn plenty of heads at any summer party.
Sequins and Beading
With evening wear for summer being sprinkled with glitter and sparkle there was plenty of inspiration for party dresses. At Giorgio Armani, the midnight blue dresses were sprinkled with crystals and sequins to look like the Sahara sky at night. There was also plenty of sparkle in the seventies inspired Halston collection.
Halston Heritage One Shoulder Dress
Get a disco look with this one shouldered dress which is perfect for the seventies trend that is likely to be around next summer.
Cocktail Dresses – Mad Men Style
September 24, 2010 by Ceri
Filed under designer clothing, Designer Cocktail Dresses, Designer Dresses, Designer Party Dresses, Designers, Evening Dresses, LBD, Women's Designer Dresses
A big trend for winter 2010 is the cocktail dress – Mad Men Style, inspired by the hit TV programme. Even if you have never watched the programme, you are sure to have heard or read about it especially when talking about fashion or style. It is highly likely that it was Mad Men that started the whole lady like retro style and fifties/sixties trends that you will be seeing every where at the moment and is set to be a massive trend going into 2011.
So what is Mad Men Style and how can you get it?
The Mad Men style is all about full skirts and blow dried hair. It is about looking after yourself and making an effort with what you wear. No more jeans and t shirts, Mad Men style is about working that lady like look. White gloves, neck scarves and pussycat bows. The TV drama is about back-stabbing advertising executives and is set in the early 1960′s so features plenty of retro style work wear.
Cocktail dresses are a great starting point, if you want to achieve the very feminine and glamorous look that Christina Hendrix and the other actresses wear on screen for Mad Men. This look is all about the hour glass shape which Joan of Madmen is very lucky to have. But it is not just about what sort of figure you have or haven’t got, Mad Men style is all about flattering your shape, emphasising womanly curves and cinching in that waist. The look is simple, a beautiful cocktail or shift dress, but the structure of the dress is not. The dress needs to hold everything in place creating a figure to die for.
It is this underlying structure in the dress that makes it well worth investing in a women’s designer dress. Whilst you may be able to finding a cheaper alternative, you can bet that it does not have the same ability to create Joan’s Mad Men figure. When it comes to refined cut and corsetry, you can’t get much better than Dolce and Gabbana. Over the years they have created countless dresses that use meticulous tailoring and boning to hold in the waist and boost the bust.
This Pink Classic Stretch Satin Fitted Dress by D & G is the perfect cocktail or party dress for almost any occasion. The beauty of it is in its simplicity. It needs very little in the way of accessories just a great pair of heels and perhaps a metallic clutch.
This Lace Insert Dress by D & G is not only incredibly flattering but also very on trend. A really versatile cocktail dress that taps into both the Mad Men theme and romantic lace. Sexy and sophisticated this is the perfect LBD (little black dress) for autumn and winter.
If you are looking for a demure long sleeved cocktail dress, then this textured lace fitted dress by D & G is just what you need. It also has a pussycat bow to really work that Mad Men look.
