There were so many great designer wear looks on the catwalk for summer 2011, but if you want to be right on trend here are some of the key dress styles to keep an eye out for this summer.
Floral dresses
D &G Mimosa print boned dress – My Wardrobe
Floral dresses are always a huge fashion trend in the summer but this year you should look out for larger scale floral prints as seen at Dries Van Noten and Jil Sanders, embellished florals as seen at Caroline Herrera, Erdem and Vera Wang and bright botanicals including the stunningly bright floral dresses at D & G. Also look our for a whole range of different blooms from the traditional rose to pansies, irises and oriental orchids. There are so many different floral dress styles around this summer but if you can’t find one that you love, there are also some great fruit prints.
Lace dress
Project D by Dannii and Tabitha black butterfly lace dress – My Wardrobe
The lace dress was already looking to be a huge trend but after the royal wedding we just can’t get it out of our head. From the innocence and simplicity of a white lace dress to the more sexy black lace dress or even a fun neon bright lace dress, you can chose a style to suit your mood. A simple shift dress style in lace is very fashionable now but also really classic piece of designer wear that is likely to last you for season after season.
One shoulder dress
Halston Heritage One Shoulder Mini – My Wardrobe
Always elegant, great for parties and incredibly flattering the one shoulder dress is back on trend again this summer. With its feel of Greek goddess, the one shoulder dress can also work well for the Studio 54 seventies vibe that is such big news this summer. Take your pick of the one shoulder dress from maxi to mini. Halston Heritage played a key role in the current seventies revival and are becoming well known for their one shoulder dress.
White dresses
Vivienne Westwood Anglomania White Wednesday Dress – My Wardrobe
This summers white dress styles are anything but boring. Interesting shapes, appliqued detail and pretty lace all more than make up for the lack of colour. Fresh, clean and cool, white dresses are the perfect designer wear for the hot summer weather and just about any occasion as long as you are not a guest at a wedding. Look for feminine dress styles in floaty and layered fabrics with flared skirts to really capture the romantic look.
Designer maxi dresses
Winter Kate halter maxi dress – My Wardrobe
Back again by popular demand, the designer maxi dress is glamorous and the perfect designer wear for the evening. It is also incredibly flattering and covers up a multitude of sins from a round tummy to saddlebag thighs. Slim line or slim fit designer maxi dresses are particularly on trend this summer and you can take your pick from one colour, patterns and prints and floaty chiffon.

If you love designer cocktail dresses by Christopher Kane, then the news that he has just won the British Fashion Council/ Vogue Designer Fashion Fund will be music to your ears.
The BFC / Vogue Award is now in its second year and was established to give a boost to British design talent in a similar way to Anna Wintour’s very successful CFDA / Vogue Fashion has done in the US. Christopher Kane will not only recieve £200,000 but also access to industry mentors to help grow his business and develop his design talent further.
Christopher Kane has already made a name for himself as an innovative young designer with his creative collections featuring some of the most desirable cocktail dresses in the UK. After graduating from Central St Martin’s college in 2006, he was invited by Donnatello Versace to work for her labels diffusion line Versus. He also already has a good following of celebrities including Kate Moss and Chloe Sevigny who love his unusual and beautiful designer cocktail dresses.
Christopher Kane won the award against some other big up and coming names in UK fashion including Johnathan Saunders, Nicholas Kirkwood, Peter Pilotto and Richard Nicoll. It was his business plan and presentation to the judges panels which was chaired by Alexandra Shulman, Editor in Chief of British Vogue that secured the prize for him.
He plans to use the funds to implement his strategic vision for the company which includes broadening the collections without sacrificing his love of details and embellishments. We can definitely look forward to lots more beautiful Christopher Kane designer cocktail dresses and perhaps even some beaded cocktail dresses. Celebrity designer dresses are a great way of working out which styles and designers will be hot for the season ahead. Celebrities often get an early start on the rest of us as in the form of samples, gifts and previews from the designer collections. They will be spotted in a designer dress well before it is available to the public. They also have a huge influence on which styles will popular, take for example that Kate Middleton dress that everyone wants. So which celebrity designer dresses are going to hot for SS11?
Kate Middleton
Of course Kate Middleton is the celebrity of the moment, with the Royal wedding set for the spring. All eyes are on what Kate is wearing and she has shown that even Royals can mix designer and high street and look amazingly stylish. Most notably she has recently been pictured wearing an elegant Issa dress to announce her engagement to Prince William and a dress by Reiss for her official engagement photographs. The question that everyone is still desperate to know is who will designer the royal wedding dress and what will it look like, easily the most more influential celebrity designer dress of the year and one that is likely to be copied for many years to come.
Kate’s favourite label Issa is likely to be big news this summer.
Rhihanna
Currently enjoying huge global success in the music industry, Rhihanna also keeps us all captivated with her bold dress sense. Recently she has been spotted in lots of floral dresses and all over floral prints including a Stella McCartney outfit, a stunning ankle length Jean Paul Gaultier ankle length 50′s style dress and a red poppy playsuit. Other good places to look for pretty floral designer dresses for the summer are D& G and Mulberry.
Emma Bunton
Emma Bunton has recently announced that she is pregnant and due to give birth in May. As with so many other celebrities she is likely to continue to work throughout her pregnancy presenting the hit TV show Dancing on Ice. She has already decided that she will be wearing dresses from the label Project D by Danni Minogue, presumably those that will allow for a little expansion.
Snow Drop Dress by Project D by Danni and Tabitha
Natalie Portman
Natalie Portman star of the latest blockbuster film black swan is another star that has recently announced that she is pregnant. She is also making the most of celebrity designer dresses that conceal that baby bump in style. For the recent Palm Springs film festival in California she wore an elegant dress from the Vionnet SS11 collection with white chiffon shirt style top and black ruffle hem. The collar and cuffs were both embellished with gold studs.

Finally, there is nothing like an awards ceremony for checking out the latest celebrity designer dresses. At the recent Golden Globes Awards some of the most notable outfits were Jennifer Anniston in a simple but stunning one shouldered Versace dress, Mariah Carey in a full length Herve Leger bandage dress, Drew Barrymore in a nude coloured Versace gown with crystal embellishments at the shoulder and hip and Sandra Bullock in a deep purple Bottega Veneta chiffon gown.

Reiss is a design led, sexy and iconic brand that sells both menswear, women’s wear and accessories with an emphasis on quality and value and some very stylish dresses. Their designs are innovative and original but also highly wearable and practical for the modern women or man. The brand originated in 1971 with a shop selling quality men’s tailoring in London. In 2000 the brand expanded its offerings to include women’s wear and it now boasts over 90 stores and a headquarters housed in the old London College of Fashion.
In 2010 Reiss beat off competition from the likes of All Saints, Topshop and New Look to win the Drapers award for the larger retailer of the year category. The brand was praised for its exceptional sell of women’s wear through 2010. The Drapers editor Jessica Brown even wore a trendy dress by Reiss to the ceremony. Reiss can also boast to be a favourite of the future queen of England, Kate Middleton. In particular the Nanette dress was was recently worn by Kate Middleton for her engagement portraits with Prince William, making it an instant success. With such a history and track record in mens tailoring, it is not surprising that Reiss is leading the way on the high street for simple cut and modern minimalist womens wear. The minimalist trend has been simmering away for a number of seasons but for SS11 is set to reach bubbling point with so many designers featuring. The minimalist white dress is most definitely going to be huge for 2011.
Greys, blacks and whites will be key colours for this seasons minimalist look with some blue too. The sharply tailored pieces that are ideal for work wear but there are also plenty of more relaxed pieces which are perfect for casual wear including cashmere mix jumpers in creams and greys, and a versatile cotton mac. Most of the styles in the Reiss collection could simply be described as classic, so whilst they are right on trend for 2011, they won’t go out of trend in a hurry.
Quilted leather jacket – an unusual take on the SS11 trend for leather biker jackets, this quilted leather jacket is an investment that will last you for many seasons to come. Try teaming it with a little black dress for an evening out or a pair of jeans and white t shirt for a casual daytime look.
Structured Dress - these flattering styles of trendy dresses are modern classic and blue is one of the key colours for the spring and summer. Wear for work with a tailored jacket or team with some sky high heels and a glamorous cover up for a special occasion.
